“Best way to buy a used car. No haggle pricing and great customer service. When there was an issue with the car we bought they refunded our money without question and we bought a different one.”

“The Good:
Everyone I’ve interacted with at Carmax has been really nice. I haven’t met anyone who wasn’t polite or who didn’t try to be helpful, even when they couldn’t fix the issue immediately.
The Bad:
I bought a vehicle on a Friday afternoon, and after signing all the paperwork, it took nearly 2 1/2 hours for them to release the keys. They kept saying it would only take another 5 to 10 minutes, but I ended up being late to pick up my son from the bus stop.
The Ugly:
The vehicle I bought had bad brakes. I noticed it on the drive home when the steering wheel started shaking on the highway. I called Carmax immediately, and while they were nice, they told me to bring the vehicle back on Monday since their service department wasn’t open on the weekend. After confirming the brakes were bad, they said they needed to order the parts and sent me home with the same car, bad brakes and all, after their supposed 120-point check.
Once the parts arrived, I was given a loaner car that reeked of cigarette smoke. I dropped my car off on a Thursday, and they couldn’t get the work done on Friday, so it sat all weekend. On Monday, I called for an update and was told they were short-staffed and it wouldn’t be done that day either. Now it’s Tuesday, and despite several calls, I still haven’t heard back from my service provider.
While I love my 2021 Honda and think it’s a great vehicle, this whole experience has been frustrating. For a place that prides itself on thorough inspections, I would’ve expected better service. All I want is to drive the car I paid for!”

“Visited this location to sell a car. Chris helped with the appraisal of the car and he was very kind and helpful but the remainder of the process was excruciating. My key was misplaced, it took them an hour to get me “checked in” and every time I asked for a status update, no one seemed to know what was going on with my car. We ended up having to return another day (12 days later) and my new appraisal offer was less than half of the original offer. Chris was awesome again and helped us get the original offer. Once we accepted that, we spent another couple hours waiting with no updates from the employees. I was given a $75 meal reimbursement for the inconvenience and was never actually reimbursed. I would not recommend selling your car here.”

“We loved our experience at Carmax! Dang was super helpful and fun to work with. Carmax had a huge selection of cars so it was a one-stop shop for us. We were able to look at, get into, and test drive all the cars we were interested in looking at, which saved us so much time!! No running around to a bunch of different dealers. They also have a very competitively priced and generous warranty program, which takes a lot of anxiety out of buying a used car. We will definitely shop Carmax from now on for our car needs!”

“I am writing this review and and providing 3 stars because at the end, I have a really fantastic vehicle, but it did take some work to get there.
Main issues:
Financing:
- There was a hiccup in understanding of the system by the finance rep which resulted in unneeded stress on my part. The issue was corrected and financing continued a couple hours later.
The Vehicle:
- There were a number of items that were stated in the inspection report as being replaced. They were not.
- A safety feature which was listed in the posting was not actually available on the vehicle.
- There were a few undisclosed items issues with the vehicle both small damages as well as mechanically.
- I was given two keys, but one was missing the key blade. Per Carmax policy, they are only liable for one fully working key and key blade and the other will be as is from the customer.
- I had the brakes serviced under the 90 day warranty due to rotor damage from the prior owner. The brake pedal is now more squishy than when I took it in.
All of these items and my costs to get the vehicle were brought to the Sales Manager who advised that nothing could be done to correct the issues or my costs.
With that being said, the vehicle is now working and is a great vehicle. Overall would I recommend Carmax given my experience, probably not.”
