Losing a credit card, having it stolen, or suspecting fraudulent charges can be stressful. However, Capital One offers $0 liability for unauthorized charges to help keep you protected in this situation. Using the Capital One Mobile app or website is one of the most convenient ways to protect yourself.
Determine if your card is lost or stolen
- If your card is temporarily misplaced: Use the card lock feature while you look for your card—this allows you to prevent any new purchases. If you find your card, you can unlock it and continue to use it as normal.
- If you know your card is lost or stolen: Immediately report your card lost or stolen if you can’t find it. When you report your card as lost or stolen, Capital One will lock the card, then issue a replacement with a new card number.
- If you notice unauthorized or fraudulent transactions: If you receive a notification about a purchase you (or your authorized users) didn’t make or notice a charge you don’t recognize, your card may have been stolen or compromised. You can report a problem with a transaction by selecting the transaction on the Capital One app or website.
What happens after you report a card as lost or stolen
