The Acura TL is a midsize luxury sport sedan sold in the U.S. market between 1996 and 2014. The first TL replaced a similar model called the Vigor, adopting the alphanumeric model designations Acura elected to use starting in the mid-1990s. A 1999 redesign boosted the TL's popularity with U.S. consumers, but the angular 2004-2008 model cemented the TL as a desirable luxury sport sedan. All of the desire faded to black with the debut of the 2009 TL, which lacked the previous model's sense of style and wore a bold, metallic grille that ruined the car's aesthetics. A minor makeover for the 2012 model year didn't reverse the TL's sales decline. Acura retired the TL nameplate in favor of a new car called the TLX in 2015.
