Electric vehicles (EVs) remain a small percentage of overall new-vehicle sales in the U.S., but the numbers are climbing. Nearly 1.2 million EVs were sold in 2023, according to Kelley Blue Book. For the specific models Americans were buying last year, here's a look at the 10 bestselling EVs of 2023 in the U.S., according to data from Automotive News.

10. Rivian R1S

2023 Sales: 23,736

One of the newest EVs on the market, the R1S is a seven-seat midsize SUV with around 14.9 inches of ground clearance and an estimated range of about 350 miles.

2023 Sales: 24,165

2023 Sales: 232,700

Tesla's introduction of the affordable Model 3 in 2017 caused the company's sales to climb dramatically. This compact sedan EV can get up to 358 miles of range, depending on its configuration, and has a starting price around $40,000.

Compared with other EVs on this list, the Tesla Model Y is in a different league regarding sales. A top seller for the brand since it was introduced for 2020, the Model Y SUV can seat up to seven and has a 330-mile range.
