2025 GMC Yukon First Look

GMC marks 2025 with fresh looks and a new trim level that blends off-road utility with luxury features.

The 2025 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs have a fresh face, a new dash with a bigger screen, and an available AT4 Ultimate variant that combines elements from two of the automaker's top trim levels. Here's what you need to know about the updated 2025 Yukon and its longer Yukon XL sibling.

New Styling Inside and Out

The Yukon retains last year's basic shape and dimensions, albeit with a new grille and front-end design. Up front, its grille takes on a more distinctly hexagonal shape, and it's flanked by complex headlights with C-shaped LED running lights. That lighting appearance is echoed at the rear with big taillights that carve into the tailgate.

The AT4 version has a different front bumper with red tow hooks. It doesn't sit significantly higher than other versions of the Yukon, however, and all models have about 7.5 inches of ground clearance. The Yukon AT4 Ultimate is also available with an air suspension that can raise the SUV by 2.0 inches for better clearance off-road.

Standard Yukons ride on a 120.9-inch wheelbase and stretch between 210.2 and 210.5 inches long overall. Yukon XLs add about 13 inches of wheelbase, and they're roughly a foot longer overall, with most of that extra space dedicated to cargo volume.

The Yukon's cabin gains a new 16.8-inch vertical portrait-orientation touchscreen, which sits above a few conventional buttons and knobs. Many climate control functions are integrated into the touchscreen, though. An available 8.0-inch touchscreen allows rear-seat passengers to adjust the climate controls.

Yukon Ultimate Trims Provide Top Luxury Experience

GMC will offer the 2025 Yukon in Elevation, AT4, AT4 Ultimate, Denali, and Denali Ultimate trim levels. At the time of publication, the automaker has only offered up feature specifics on some of the swankiest models in the lineup.

Last year's ritzy Denali Ultimate name continues, and it's now outfitted with open-pore wood trim with a laser-etched topographical map inside and massive 24-inch alloy wheels outside. Its front seats offer 16-way power adjustment, plus they're heated, ventilated, and have a massaging feature. Second-row captain's chairs will be available later.

The AT4 Ultimate takes a slightly different approach. It's outfitted with a different type of open-pore wood trim that extends to the steering wheel, but it retains a rugged look. This trim rides on all-terrain tires.

GMC offers a number of tech and safety features on the 2025 Yukon, though all models have forward automated emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, and rear cross-traffic braking. Parent company General Motors' Super Cruise hands-off, eyes-on-the-road driver-assistance tech is available. The automaker now touts that around 750,000 miles of roads in the U.S. and Canada will be mapped and available for hands-off driving by the end of 2025.

Additional available features include a panoramic sunroof, a 22-speaker Bose audio system, and a hands-free power liftgate that opens automatically when it senses the key is nearby.

Wider Turbo-Diesel Availability for 2025

On Elevation and AT4 trims, the Yukon comes with a 5.3-liter V8 making 355 horsepower. Opt for the AT4 Ultimate, the Denali, or the Denali Ultimate, and GMC swaps that engine in favor of a 420-hp 6.2-liter V8. That engine is available on the Yukon AT4, but not the Elevation.

The turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel inline-six is available across the lineup. It's rated at 305 horsepower, though its 495 pound-feet of torque tops even the 6.2-liter's 460 lb-ft.

All engines send power to either the rear wheels or, optionally, all four through a 10-speed automatic transmission. GMC has not released fuel-economy estimates.

The Yukon can be equipped to tow up to 8,400 pounds, while the Yukon XL tops out at 8,200 pounds. GMC offers a handful of high-tech trailer-towing features, including a liftgate-mounted camera that works in concert with a camera that users can install on certain types of trailers. The cameras can display a virtual live view through the trailer so that drivers can see what's behind them when they're backing up.

Look for the 2025 Yukon at dealership lots by the end of 2024, though GMC notes that the turbo-diesel will come at a later date.
